If you’re looking for a good way to get a lot of protein-based nutrition in the morning (a really good idea) , fill you up for a few hours, and keep your energy level balanced by not creating a big spike in blood-sugar, we’ve got a great protein smoothie recipe we think you’ll love.
This is a healthy, but still tasty smoothie that we drink every day. We usually drink it around 8am, and it keeps us full to around 10:30 or 11am. It took us nearly two years to perfect the ingredient list, proportions of each ingredient and make lots of improvements. Lots has changed over the years, in terms of our diet, but this gem has always formed its pillar and never fails to make us feel great. We’ve been asked a lot to explain what’s in our delicious protein smoothie, so, here you go.
Delicious Protein Smoothie Recipe (Serves two):
- Two scoops of Spiru-Tein (use any flavor you like, but I find Cookies and Cream to be a bit too sweet)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Nutribiotic Organic Rice Protein powder
- 3 Tbsp organic chia seeds
- 2 Tbsp organic sprouted (if you can) flax seeds
- Half scoop Unflavored Egg Protein Powder (or Jay Robb Whey Protein Isolate)
- 1/4 Cup organic shredded coconut
- 1/4 Cup raw, sprouted cashews
- 1/4 Cup raw, sprouted almonds
- 3 Cups water
- One tray of ice
I like to mix together all the dry ingredients first. Then put the water in the blender, turn the blender on its lowest setting. When the water is circling around in the blender, I take the top off and pour in all the dry ingredients. This way, I don’t splash all the dry ingredients to the top of the blender when it first starts. It’s up to you, and be careful!
When the room-temperature ingredients have blended sufficiently, stop the blender and add one full tray of ice cubes. Blend until smooth and you’re ready to go!
We drink one of these every day, sometimes adding cinnamon or even a few tablespoons of pumpkin and allspice. Try switching up the Spiru-Tein flavors (chocolate-peanutbutter is amazing) so you don’t get tired of the same flavors day after day.
